School Vision & Mission
School Year 2024-2025
INSTRUCTIONAL FOCUS
Through a collaborative school-wide approach (families, students, and staff), we will positively impact students' literacy and mathematical thinking skills in a coordinated effort to graduate all students on or above an 8th grade level.
MISSION & VISION
At M.S. 101- The Edward R. Byrne School, we believe that all children should be active participants in a learning process that maintains a solid commitment to the search for knowledge. M.S. 101 is a safe and nurturing community in which students create and maintain lasting relationships with peers, teachers, administration, and staff.
SCHOOL BELIEFS
All teachers will monitor student learning to inform their practice and planning, provide timely feedback to students and work with parents and families to engage in all aspects of school life.
All students will engage every day in academically rigorous texts and rigorous writing tasks via the Core-Ready curriculum and the mathematical tasks via the Reveal curriculum. Students will take ownership of their learning via the digital portfolios and demonstrate commitment to the mission and vision of M.S. 101.
All students will engage in reading, writing, and analysis of non-fiction texts, including historical letters, speeches, and political cartoons in social studies and charts via the Passport to Social Studies curriculum. Students will write an argumentative or informational culminating writing task (DBQ) at the end of each unit to assess their understanding of the content, analysis of documents, and the writing process in social studies. Science students will engage in the Amplify Science Curriculum and be assessed via the Amplify End-of-Unit Assessments, which incorporate multiple choice and short response tasks.
School leaders will align all academic areas to the Instructional Principles for Schools in a coordinated effort to ensure all students’ mathematical skills, reading and writing on grade level by graduation. Provide and coordinate Professional Learning for teachers and staff in order to help students to reach our instructional focus goal of all students’ mathematical skills, reading and writing on grade level by graduation. Engage parents and families in every aspect of school life.
School Leaders will implement the use of the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) to drive our beliefs around Academic Response to Invention (RTI), School wide Behavior and Emotional Learning Supports and Attendance.
